Presenters of vehicle registration certificates will be allowed to use Riga public transport free of charge on September 22

On Saturday, September 22, the "Day without a car", which concludes the European Mobility Week, presenters of vehicle registration certificates will be allowed to use Riga public transport free of charge. This initiative of "Rīgas satiksme", aimed to promote the use of public transport as part of the European Mobility Week, was accepted today by the Communications and Transport Committee of Riga City Council.

"Riga is taking an active part in organising the events of the Mobility week, because promotion of alternative means and ways of transportation has been always topical in our city. It is not occasionally that Riga with its clean environment is considered one of the leaders among capitals of the world," says Vadims Baraņņiks, chairman of the Communications and Transport Committee of Riga City Council. The head of the committee also reminds that Riga has already received a special award from the EU Environment Commissioner for organising the Mobility week in 2010.

During this year’s European Mobility Week, whose slogan is "Movement in right direction", Rigans are urged to adopt a healthy and dynamic lifestyle, to leave their cars and motorbikes at home and to take public transport or bicycles instead. The European Mobility Week is organised in Riga for the 11th year in a row.
